Knee meniscus surgery no better than a sham!

Think Twice Before Getting Knee Surgery -Huffington Post

A May 2015, Huff Post article by Allen Frances Professor Emeritus, Duke University , discusses the following study.

A New England Journal of Medicine Study was published last year:

“Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy versus Sham Surgery for a Degenerative Meniscal Tear”.

Conclusion: In this trial involving patients without knee osteoarthritis but with symptoms of a degenerative medial meniscus tear, the outcomes after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy were no better than those after a sham surgical procedure.

In more layman’s term the procedure to repair a torn meniscus worked no better than a fake one to ease lingering pain.  Will the 700,000 patients who have arthroscopic surgery each year in the United States, be told about this study?
